Visiting Dr. Greg

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. He doesn't have any teeth. He doesn't even have a tail! I look after Chance, too. He climbs way high on things and can't get down. I have to help him. He's a handful!

Guess where we are? We're visiting Dr. Greg. He's my dentist. Dentists are tooth doctors. Dentists look after our teeth. It's time for my checkup. Dr. Greg says, "Open wide, Charles." I open w-a-y wide so Dr. Greg can look inside my mouth. I don't have any cavities this time. That's 'cuz I brush and floss my teeth every day after I eat.  I brush like this. "Back and forth like a choo-choo train and up and down like an aeroplane!" Brushing my teeth is fun. Know why? 'Cuz I have a Ninja Turtle toothbrush and Spiderman toothpaste.

Chance doesn't have any teeth but Dr. Greg checks his gums. Chance has healthy gums. One day he'll cut a tooth and it will be healthy.

Dr. Greg gave us something nice. It's a tooth timer. I set it on the sink and I brush until all the sand falls to the bottom. That's how I know I'm done.

Then we get ready for James to read us  our bedtime story and hear our bedtime prayers.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Brush and floss after every meal. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can brush and floss together! Okay! Over and out!"

We Visit Dr. Greg and Miss Lana on St. Valentine's Day

I think the angels left him there. He came wrapped up in a little green blankie and he had a bottle and a note that read, "Please look after me."  He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me are at the dentist's office. We go there every six months. Miss Lana is a dental high genius. She checks our teeth. Miss Lana is very pretty and very nice. I think she might be a princess, you know. I could be a dental high genius when I grow up. I would say, "Sit up straight, my son. Open wider, my son." Then I would clean some teeth.

I have strong, healthy teeth. That's 'cuz I brush and frost after I eat. I hate cavities. Cavities hurt. Bear cubs who don't brush and frost get cavities. Cavities are holes. They're not nice at all. Cavities are not our friends.

Chance is too little to have teeth. That's 'cuz he's a newborn cubby. When Miss Lana brought out the little mirror to look in Chance's mouth, he tried to eat it. We don't eat mirrors, you know. Miss Lana says Chance has healthy gums. One day he will have healthy teeth and he can eat Smarties. I'll share my Smarties with Chance. Smarties are taste-O-liscious.

This is how to brush your teeth.

Back and forth like a choo-choo train
And up and down like an aeroplane!

That is how the toothbrush goes. I have a Ninja toothbrush and Spiderman toothpaste.

Oh! Dr. Greg is nice. He's the bestest dentist every. He gave me and Chance a St. Valentine's toy because we were so good. I got a Cecil the Sea Serpent toothbrush. It folds up really small so I can carry it in my suitcase when we go on VIA Rail/. Chance got a coin purse with a BIG smile on it. He can keep loonies and toonies in there. Thank you, Dr. Greg! Thank you, Miss Lana!"

Oh.

Brush and frost your teeth every day. Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you! Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can brush and frost together! Okay! Happy St. Valentine's Day. Over and out!"

The Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre

We adopted him. He's my little brother, now. I call him cubby. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? This is me with Miss Jackie. She's my teacher at the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre. Miss Jackie is beautiful. Wanna know a secret? Come really close and I'll whisper it in your ear. I think Miss Jackie is a princess. Miss Jackie is kind. She's very smart, too. She teaches us lots of things. She taught me to paint. I can paint and stay inside the lines. That's hard for bear cubs 'cuz we don't have thumbs, you know.

Chance and me like to paint pictures of ourselves. We paint pictures of the things we do everyday, like playing hockey and making bubbles in the bathtub at bathtub. We make pictures of us mailing letters to our friends and buddies. We're pretty busy bear cubs. We're busy all day long. On rainy days, James brings out the paints so we can have indoor fun. It's fun to paint pictures. The paint goes on the canvas. We don't paint each other. Sometimes Chance tries to eat the paint 'cuz it's pretty. We can't eat paint. Paint isn't in Canada's Food Guide. Paint is for pictures. We have an exhibition of our paintings at a store on Sandwich Street. You can see them. They're at the store called 1976. It's at 3214 Sandwich Street. Nick and Aveline own the store. They're very nice grownups. They are kind to bear cubs and sometimes give us Smarties to eat.

Chance and me are artists, you know. I could be an artist when I grow up. James says most artists are starving. I know there are lots of starving children in Belgium. I wonder if they're artists?  I wouldn't like to starve. I like to eat. Growing bear cubs need to eat. My favouritest foods are Smarties, porridge, peanut butter and licorice sandwiches. Oh, wait! I like to drink root beer. When it'd cold outside I like to drink hot cocoa with newborn baby marshmallows in it. Marshmallows float.

Here's a painting we made. Know what we're doing? Chance and me are brushing and frosting our teeth before we go to bed. Chance is so tiny he sits on top of the sink. I'm pretty tall. I stand on my stool. Chance doesn't have any teeth yet, but he  brushes his gums.

We have Ninja toothbrushes and Spiderman toothpaste. Know what happens if we don't brush and frost? We get holes in our teeth. That's not good. Then we have to go visit Dr. Greg. he's a dentist. Dr. Greg is nice. He's a tooth doctor, you know. Dr. Greg says, "Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you!"

Oh.

Have fun every day. Learn to paint pictures of the things you do. Then you can remember all the fun. Oh! Wait! Take care of your teeth. Brush and frost every day. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre and play with us! You can meet Miss Jackie. We can have fun together! Okay! Over and out!"

Our Visit with Dr. Greg

I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're visiting Dr. Greg. He's a dentist. I know what dentists do. They are tooth doctors. Dr. Greg is very nice. He says I have a cavity. Cavities are bad. They are little holes. They come when we don't brush and frost after eating Smarties and and wallermelon and drinking root beer. Sugar isn't nice to our teeth.

Dr. Greg says, "This will pinch a little bit. He puts my mouth to sleep so he can chase away the cavity. I'm very brave. I hold very still and almost don't cry at all. That's 'cuz I'm five and Chance is watching. I have to be brave for Chance, you know. I set a good example. When we're all done, I get a really pretty sticker! Chance gets one, too. We'll be back to see Dr. Greg and Miss Donna in January. Remember to be true to your teeth or they will be false to you!

I could be a dentist you know. I would say, "Open wider, please" and "turn your head this way." Then I would use the drill to chase away the cavities. Cavities would be afraid of Dr. Charles. I would give all the brave little bear cubs stickers and Spiderman toothpaste and Ninja toothbrushes, too.

Oh.

Brush and frost your teeth every time you eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can brush and frost together! Over and out!"

Our Visit with Miss Donna at the Dentist's Office

I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me are visiting Dr. Greg and Miss Donna. He is a dentist. I know what a dentist is. He looks at our teeth 'cuz he's a tooth doctor.

Today Miss Donna is cleaning my teeth. I brush my teeth after every meal with Spiderman toothpaste and my Ninja toothbrush. Oh! Wait! Then I frost them with the little green string. Two times a year I get my toofies cleaned by Miss Donna. She's the boss of tooth cleaning. She's very nice. She has a nice laugh. She might be a princess, you know.

Chance doesn't have to get his teeth cleaned 'cuz he doesn't have any. He's a wee little thing, a newborn cubby.  He just drinks condensed owls' milk in his bottle.

Miss Donna checks Chance's gums. She says they're healthy gums. That's good. I don't know where unhealthy gums go. Maybe they go to a gum hospital. Maybe we could ride in an ambulance to the gum hospital and we can make siren noises!  I'll ask James. He knows lots of things. He'll know, for sure!

Miss Donna gave us stickers 'cuz we're brave. Well, I was brave. Chance climbed up on top of the light and Miss Donna had to get him down. Chance climbs on everything he can. He took off his diaper, too. He really is a handful, you know.

Oh.

Brush you teeth and frost them, too. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh. Then you have to brush and frost some more. Know what?  Be true to you teeth or they will be false to you!   Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can brush and frost together!  Okay! Over and out!"

Visiting the Dentist

Hi. This is me. Charles the Handsome Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy James. I look after him 'cuz he's forgetful and old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. He must be 20!

Every day James hollers, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who's a Son of Windsor? Who's a Prince of Ontario? That's me! Charles!  I come running to get my ears tickled and my nose kissed.

Know what? I am at Dr. Gregg's office. He's a dentist. That's a tooth doctor. I'm gonna get my teeth checked. I brush my teeth every day with my Ninja toothbrush. Don't eat toothpaste, okay. It's not in the Canada Food Guide, you know.

Dr. Gregg has a sign that says, "Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you." I know what that means.  James has teeth that come out at night. They are false teeth. They didn't lie or anything, they're just false. I sure hope Dr. Gregg gives me a new Ninja toothbrush. Oh! Wait! Maybe he will give me some licorice. No! Wait! Gummy worms. Yeah. I hope he gives me gummy worms. The lady is calling my name. Okay. I gotta go, now. Bye!
