Grocery Shopping at Westside Foods

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're at Westside Foods. It's the grocery store by our house. I  l-o-v-e our grocery store. We buy food here. Ravan  is the owner. He's really nice. He always says 'Hello' when we come in the store.

The store is full of all kinds of good things to eat.  There is porridge and chocolate cookies and soap. We don't eat soap. Oh. There is milk and cheese, too. I drink chocolate milk and I eat cheese.

There are lots of farms all over Essex County. The  people who live on farms are called farmers, you know. Farmers grow food. They bring their fresh food to the store.''Know what?  Farmers around here grow wallermelons. I l-o-v-e wallermelons, don't  you? I could eat wallermelons all day long. They're as yummy as Smarties and licorices.

Yummy is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. The other food groups are sticky, sweet and nasty. I have brocollis and sauerkrauts. They're nasty. I don't want to  eat them at all. I hold my nose and take two bites so I can be a good example for Chance. One day he will have teeth and he won't drink condensed owls' milk out of a bottle anymore.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Help with the grocery shopping. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can go grocery shopping together! Okay! Over and out!"

Our Friend Angus

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's forgetful and really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. This is the third day James forgot to buy gummy worms. We don't even have any Smarties. I know! I'll put licorice in my porridge. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're visiting Angus. He's a cat. He lives with Cassidy the bunny rabbit and their buddies Jay and Shawn. Angus likes to climb up high. So do we! Climbing is fun. When I get way up high I can see everything! Angus likes to play Hide & Seek with us, too. Angus is a good hider. Chance thinks if he closes his eyes we can't see him. That's silly. He's a newborn cubby. He will be a better hider when he's older, like me.

Did you hear that? James is hollering? "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Ontario? Where are my Princes of Windsor? Who wants to go to Westside Foods ad get gummy worms and Smarties? That's us! Charles and Chance. We're handsome bear cubs! We're Sons of Ontario! We're Princes of Windsor! We want to go to the store! I like to ride in the buggy and make siren sounds. Chance doesn't talk but he makes little squeaky noises when he's happy. Okay. We gotta go! This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Climb way up high today and you can see everything! Over and out!"

Snow People

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's old and forgetful, so I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? We made snow people! This is how we do it. We roll snow into balls and stack them on top of each other. Then we give them faces and put scarves and hats on them so they won't catch cold and have to take Buckley's Cough Syrup.  It tastes awful. I made a snow person. James made a snow person. Chance is too little, so we helped him make a snow person. He likes making snow people. I can tell 'cuz he makes little squeaky noises when he's happy. We named them Frosty, Freezy and Fred. Snow people don't talk, you know. I don't know what snow persons eat. I'm sure they like Smarties and licorice.  Chance and me don't need to wear snowsuits. We get to run around and play bare naked. That's a pun you know. I'm five. I know what puns are.

Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are our Princes of Windsor?" That's me, Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're the Princes of Windsor! We better go find James. He'll tickle our ears and kiss our noses, too!

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Go outside and play in the snow. Make snow people and feed them Smarties and licorice. Eat some yourself. Okay, we gotta go. Over and out!"

Queen Elizabeth

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy James. He is forgetful and old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? I'm in the Law Courts. See the picture of the nice lady on the wall behind me? That's Queen Elizabeth. I know who she is. She's the Queen of Canada. She's the big boss. She's the boss of almost everybody except the Knighted States. She has a lot of jobs, you know. One of her jobs is to rain over us. She tells the weather what to do. She's the boss of Environment Canada! I will ask her to make it snow. That's a really big job! I know a song about Queen Elizabeth-

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to rain over us:
God save the Queen.

Oh! No! Queen Elizabeth has to be saved. Oh! My! Good thing I know how to save Her Majesty. Know how? I press "Apple" and "s" and she's saved!

Queen Elizabeth is a good citizen. Good citizens get to eat gummy worms in their porridge and drink root beer and play Space Invaders. One day James and Chance and me will go visit Her Majesty. She lives in a castle. We will be fun. We can eat wallermelon. I'm sure Queen Elizabeth will play with us and help us dig holes in the back yard.

Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor and my Princes of Ontario?  That's me Charles! I'm a Son of Windsor and a Prince of Ontario--and Chance is a Son of Windsor and a Prince of Ontario, too! I gotta go. I gotta find Chance so we can go see James and get our ears tickled and our noses kissed. Okay! This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be a good citizen. Don't forget! Press "Apple" and "s" on the computer! Save our Queen! Over and out!"

Merry Christmas is a Real Person!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He forgets which house we live in. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? Last night I had a dream about Merry Christmas. She is a very pretty lady and she wears a red dress and a red coat. She  took Chance and me to visit her Christmas House. We rode in a one-horse open sleigh. Merry Christmas lives in a real big house. She lives with Santa and Frosty the Snow Person and Rudolph the Nasally Challenged Reindeer. We all sat under the Christmas tree. Merry Christmas gave us licorice and Smarties. We sang a song for her. Well, I sang a song. Chance doesn't sing. He doesn't even talk yet, he's so little. He made squeaky noises 'cuz he was happy.

We love you Merry Christmas
We love you Merry Christmas
We love you Merry Christmas
Have a Happy New Year!

That was our song. Merry Christmas clapped her hands and tickled our ears. She kissed our noses and told us to be good cubs and to be kind to everyone. We fell asleep under the tree.

When we woke up. We put another sticker on the calendar, today. Know what? It's only three more days before Santa and Merry Christmas come to our house!

This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Merry Christmas, everybody! Over and out!"

Have Suitcase Will Travel

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy,  James. He is old and forgetful. Sometimes he forgets where he put his teeth!   I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? We climb in the suitcase and eat licorice. I tell Chance stories about when I went to like Cub Camp in Quebec. I tell him stories about places we wanna go, like Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. They're far away. I tell him about Florida and Oregon. Florida and Oregon are in the Knighted States. Chance can't eat licorice. He doesn't have any teeth. I let him suck on a licorice stick. He likes pineapple licorice the best. It's fun to go on trips, even if it is just a make-believe trip in a suitcase on the living room floor.

Oh! Did you hear that?  James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are the Sons of Windsor? Where are you my Princes of Ontario?" That's us! Charles and Chance! We're gonna run find James so he can kiss our noses and tickle our ears and make us laugh right out loud. It's time for our nap. Chance is already asleep and I'm getting sleepy. Okay. We gotta go nap. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Travel. Bon voyage!"

More Hallowe'en Fun

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He is old and forgetful. Sometimes he can't find his bicycle.   I have to look after him. Oh.Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after him, too. Know what? It's Hallowe'en. We went out last night in disguises to get Smarties and other yummy stuff from our neighbours and friends. I wore sunglasses cuz I'm Ray Charles. Chance is wearing a handkerchief cuz he's Cowboy Chance.

Know what? We sure did get lots of yummy stuff. We got licorice and marshmallows and Cherry Blossoms and Coffee Crisps, too. When we get home we can eat it all up and we can go out tonight and get some more. Sure hope you're having fun this Hallowe'en!

Gotta go!  James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor and my Princes of Ontario." That's us! Charles and Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario.  This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, we gotta go! "See you later!"

Hallowe'en

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He is old and forgetful. This morning he forgot his backpack!  I have to look after him. Oh.Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after him, too.

Know what? It's Hallowe'en. Chance and me are going out to trick-or-treat. I know what that means. It means we disguise ourselves and knock on doors and holler, "Trick or treat!" Then people guess who we are. They give us Smarties and gummy worms and licorice and all kinds of yummy things that are in the Canada Food Guide. I'm wearing sunglasses. I'm disguised as Ray Charles. Chance is wearing a handkerchief. He's Cowboy Chance. James is going with us. He says he is going to disguise himself as a grumpy old man. Nobody will know who we are. I lo-v-e Hallowe'en! This is the funnest thing. Okay. I gotta go cuz James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor and my Princes of Ontario?" That's us, Charles and Chance! We're gonna find James and get our ears tickled, our noses kissed and laugh right out loud!

Be good citizens today and pick up all the litter you see. Good citizens get to Trick-or-treat!  This is me Charles the Bear Cub saying, "over and out!"

Climb Time

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy,  James. I have to look after him 'cuz he's old and forgetful. Today he lost his hat.  Oh, wait. Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left on our doorstep one morning. He's a wee little thing. I have to look after him. He copies everything I do. Sometimes that gets him into trouble. He's a handful!

Know what? I'm way up here on this light pole. I l-o-v-e to climb things. Chance is right behind me. I'm careful so I don't step on him. Know what? It's fun to be up here. I can see everybody really good. I wonder how high God has to climb to see everybody? I bet he has to climb really high! I bet I don't have to talk so loud to God when I'm way up here.

Did you hear that?  James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are the Sons of Windsor and the Princes of Ontario?" That's me, Charles--and Chance, too! We gotta get down and go find James so he can tickle our ears, kiss our noses and make us laugh out loud. Chance doesn't really laugh, he's so little. But he makes squeaky noises when he's happy. I hope  James has licorice in his pockets for us. I l-o-v-e licorice. I wish I had pockets. Maybe I'll grow some when I'm older. Okay, bye for now. This is me, Charles the bear cub, saying, 'over and out good citizens!'

Thanksgiving Day

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub and this is my little brother, Chance. We live on Sparkle Road with our buddy, James. I look after Chance and James 'cuz Chance is a newborn cubby and James is really old.

Know what? Today is Thanksgiving Day. I know what that means. I  say 'thank you' for all the good things that happened this year. Oh, wow! I got so many things to say 'thank you' for it would take me 'til lunch to say them all! I'm thankful for our family-- James and especially for Chance. I l-o-v-e having a baby brother. I'm thankful for my blue bike with the Canada flag on it, for wallermelons and gummy worms and porridge and Smarties and licorice. I'm thankful for trees to climb and the Crosstown bus and for baklava at Big Pita and everything that's yummy in the Canada Food Guide.

We're having turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Oh. Wait! We're having mashed potatoes and gravy and corn on the cob and apple pie, too. Our house smells real good. Chance is a wee little thing. He can't eat turkey. He drinks condensed owls'  milk out of a bottle. Sometimes I smoosh up Smarties and put them in his milk but I don't know if he drinks the red ones last. Eating the red Smarties last is a rule, you know. Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Who's my handsome bear cubs? Who are the Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario?" That's us--Charles and Chance! We gotta go find James so he can tickle our ears, kiss our noses and make us laugh out loud. Chance doesn't really laugh but he makes squeaky noises when he's happy. Okay! Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and buddies! This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be thankful! Over and out."'

Nighty Night!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. I'm five. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy,  James. I look after him 'cuz he's old and forgetful. He lost his mitts today.  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby. I found him in a basket one morning, right in front of the door!

I wanted a little brother for a long time but every time I would ask,  James would laugh, kiss my nose and say, "Fat chance, Charles. You're a handful already." That's how cubby got the name Chance. Chance and me and  James have lots of fun together.

After supper we're sleepy. We have our baths. Then  James tucks us into bed and reads stories to us. Then we say our prayers. Chance can't talk but he makes squeaky noises when he's happy. He likes to crawl under the covers cuz he thinks he's hiding. He can't hide from me.

Prayer time is nice. Know why? That is when I tell God what I did today. He's my friend even if I can't see him. Know what I say? I say, "Hello, God. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with Chance and James. Thank you for all the fun we had today. Thank you for my little brother and for James. Oh, wait. Thank you for Cassidy and Tanner, my friends. Thank you for porridge and gummy worms and licorice and my blue bike with the Canada flag and for Smarties, too. Thank you for trees to climb and for a a big back yard so I can dig holes. God, I know you climb way up high so you can watch over us. Thanks for watching. Okay, God. I'm sleepy. Amen."

Amen means I'm finished, God. This is me, Charles the sleepy bear cub saying 'over and out!" Then James kisses our noses and says, "Good night handsome bear cubs. Good night you Sons of Windsor. Good night you Princes of Ontario. Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite!" I don't know what bedbugs are but if I ever see one I'll make it sit on the Time Out Chair. No one should bite, you know. I sleep all night. So does Chance. Well, sometimes he poos in his diaper and makes squawky noises, so we have to change them but then we go right back to sleep. Bye for now?

Come on Down!

Hi. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub. I live on Sparkle Road with James. He's my buddy. I look after him 'cuz he's old and forgetful. Look at me! I'm way up here!

Know what? The Olde Sandwich Towne Festival starts today.  James will be in a movie at Mackenzie Hall. We got seats--front and centre--for this. I like to eat licorice and popcorn at the movies. I sure hope there's gummy worms, too. No. Wait. Smarties. Yeah. I want to eat Smarties during the movie. It's hard to see in the dark. I hope I save all the red Smarties for last.

There's lots of things to do all weekend. We will have fun. Know what else is fun? Looking at my baby pictures. I never knew I was so small. I want a baby brother. I climbed up on James' lap and asked if we can go to Zellers and pick one out. James just hugs me, kisses my nose and laughs. He says, "Fat chance! Oh, Charles, you're a card."  I'm not a card. I'm a bear cub. I'm five. My birthday is on Canada Day but that's a long time from now. I like being five. I can climb really high and dig really big holes in the back yard.

Okay. It's time for breakfast. We're having porridge with gummy worms. I l-o-v-e that. If I had a baby brother I'd teach him to eat porridge and gummy worms. I gotta go. See you at the festival. Bye for now! This is me, Charles, saying over and out!

Laundry

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. Our house is right by Sandwich Street in Olde Sandwich Towne. I look after him 'cuz he's forgetful. He forgot where we live!

Look at me! I'm riding in a laundry cart at the Mill Coin Laundry. Is it ever fun. James pushes the cart and I make the fire engine siren noise. Oh. I forgot. This is where we come to get clean clothes. I don't need clean clothes. Bear cubs don't wear clothes. We get to run around bare naked. That's a pun.

James has to wear clothes. He's not a bear cub even if he acts like one sometimes. Know what? I wear sox. I have Cat-in-the-Hat sox. They were a birthday present from Tanner and Cassidy. Tanner is a big 'ole yeller dog and Cassidy is a bunny rabbit. My birthday is on Canada Day. My sox are in the washing machine. I can run real fast in Cat-in-the-Hat sox. I bet I can run even faster when they're nice and clean.

I couldn't run fast when I was just a little cubby. James says I was a fast crawler and he used to call me Super Cub. Oh. Wait. I hear him hollering, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who's a Son of Windsor? Who's a Prince of Ontario?" That's me, Charles! I'm a handsome bear cub. I'm a Son of Windsor! I'm a Prince of Ontario! Okay! I gotta get out of here and find James so he can tickle my ears, kiss my nose and make me laugh right out loud. Maybe he will give me some licorice. Okay! Bye for now! This is me, Charles saying, "Over and out!"

Hanging out at the Mill Dollar Store

Hi. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub. I live with my buddy, James. I look after him, 'cuz he's forgetful. He made spaghetti for breakfast!

Know what? I'm a the Mill Dollar Store with my buddy, Allen. That's on the corner of Mill and Sandwich Streets, right by our house on Sparkle Road. Allen looks after the whole store. Allen has candy and toys. He has lots of other stuff, too. If you have money you can take some home.

James always tells me to keep my paws in my pockets so I don't break anything. He's silly. Bear cubs don't have pockets. Maybe I will grow some when I'm older. I sure hope so. I want thumbs, too.

If you don't have money and you take something, that's stealing and you will get caught and get your paws printed and your mug shot taken and have to stay in jail. That's not nice. I could be a helper here. I can say, "The marshmallows are in Aisle Six" and "Did you find everything you were looking for?" That's what helpers say.

Helpers are good citizens and good citizens get to eat Smarties and licorice. Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who's a Son of Windsor?" That's me! Charles. I gotta say good-bye to Allen and go get my ears tickled and my nose kissed so I can laugh right out loud. I sure hope you're a good citizen and somebody tickles your ears today! "Bye for now. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub, saying Over and out!"

Backyard Space Cub

Hi. This is me, Charles the Handsome Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparlkle Road with my buddy, James. That's in Windsor. Windsor is on Ontario. That's in O Canada our home and native land.

Wanna know how I know I'm handsome? Cuz my buddy,  James, says so every day. He hollers, "Who's a handsome bear cub?" and I come running cuz he's gonna tickle my ears and make me laugh right out loud. I'm a Son of Windsor and a Prince of Ontario, too!

Know what? I can swing in the back yard. I can swing really high when James pushes me. I swing so high I'm a Space Cub. I'm the first bear cub to explore outer space. Monkeys and dogs went into space, so why not a bear cub? I'm sure if I get hungry in outer space I would look for space Smarties and space licorice too. I want  James to push me again. I gotta go really high to get into outer space. I bet I can see the whole world from up there. I bet I can see your house.

James says I'm "spacey". I don't know what that means but he says I'll know when I'm older. Know what? My birthday is on Canada Day. Then I will be older and then I will know. Oh. Wait! Maybe I should put on a space suit and a space helmet. Good idea. Okay. I gotta go, now. Bye!

Another Boat Ride!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live with  James on Sparkle Road. He's my buddy. I look after him 'cuz he's old and forgetful. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. He remembers the invention of Saran Wrap. He must be really old--maybe 20!

Look at me! I'm on the Senator. That's a boat that goes up and down the Detroit River. I know Captain Bill. I got to eat a hamburger 'cuz they don't have Smarties or licorice. We saw big lake freighters and "salties," too. The Senator goes all the way from Lake St. Clair to the Ambassador Bridge and back. Everybody was real nice. I had lots of fun.

I know! Next time you can come with us, okay? Check it out at www.windsorcruise.com. Oh! Wait! James is hollering, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who's a Son of Windsor? Who's a Prince of Ontario?" That's me! Charles! I gotta go get my ears tickled and my nose kissed. Okay. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Ahoy, matie! All aboard! See you soon. Over and out."

Visiting the Dentist

Hi. This is me. Charles the Handsome Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy James. I look after him 'cuz he's forgetful and old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. He must be 20!

Every day James hollers, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who's a Son of Windsor? Who's a Prince of Ontario? That's me! Charles!  I come running to get my ears tickled and my nose kissed.

Know what? I am at Dr. Gregg's office. He's a dentist. That's a tooth doctor. I'm gonna get my teeth checked. I brush my teeth every day with my Ninja toothbrush. Don't eat toothpaste, okay. It's not in the Canada Food Guide, you know.

Dr. Gregg has a sign that says, "Be true to your teeth or they will be false to you." I know what that means.  James has teeth that come out at night. They are false teeth. They didn't lie or anything, they're just false. I sure hope Dr. Gregg gives me a new Ninja toothbrush. Oh! Wait! Maybe he will give me some licorice. No! Wait! Gummy worms. Yeah. I hope he gives me gummy worms. The lady is calling my name. Okay. I gotta go, now. Bye!
