Mexican Grill

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful! Chance always takes off his diaper and then he climbs way high on things and then he can't get down. I have to help him.

Know what? Chance and me don't have to go to Mexico to eat. We got yummy Mexican food right here in Windsor. It's one of my favouritests foods to eat.  I l-o-v-e Mexican food. It's one of the four food groups in Canada's Food Guide. Marion is the nice lady who served us. She's the boss of the Mexican Grill. Know what? I think she might be a princess.

There's lots and lots of good things to eat on the menu. I can read the menu all by myself, you know. That's 'cuz I'm five and I go to the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre. That's on Sandwich Street.  I want to eat everything. James says, "Charles! Calm down, my son. You must be as hungry as a bear!" I am, you know.  I'm a growing bear cub.

Chance is too little to eat Mexican food. He doesn't have any teeth, yet. He just drinks owls' milk out of his bottle. Chance thinks my enchiladas are pretty. He licks them and makes little squeaky noises. When he makes squeaky noises, that means he's happy.

It's hard to choose what to eat. They got lots of vegetabletarian foods. That's good for vegetabletarians. Bunny rabbits don't eat meat. They're vegetabletarians, you know. Finally I decide. I'm gonna eat the red and green enchiladas. They look yummy. There's salad and rice and refried beans, too.

Next time I think I'm gonna eat tacos. No. Wait! I think I want fajitas. Maybe I'm gonna have tortillas.  I'm just going to eat everything. Yeah. Then I'll be stuffed. Really stuffed.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be kind to your neighbours and friends. Do good deeds.  Then you can go to the Mexican Grill and eat Mexican food. You can have Smarties and drink root beer, too. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and we can go to the Mexican Grill with us! Okay! Over and out!" Ole!

Taloola Cafe

Know what? Chance's birthday is tomorrow. His birthday is on Hallowe'en. I know what Hallowe'en is. It's a day when we dress up like we're somebody else and we knock on our friends' and neighbours' doors and holler, "Trick or treat!" They guess who we are and we get Smarties and root beer and licorice and chocolate bars.

We're at Taloolah Cafe . That's in Walkerville. Kyle is the cook. Kyle helps us read the menu.  He cooked us some desserts that don't have sugar in them. He makes lots of yummy foods. He makes foods that don't have gluten in them. They're gluten-free foods. Know what else? He makes foods that don't have meat in them. That's for vegetabletarians. We sure are glad we're hungry when we come here!

Oh.

Do good deeds.  Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can go to the Taloola Cafe together! Okay! Over and out!"

House of India, Part Two

Know what? Here's Chance and me with Samir. He was the nice server who brought us all our food at the House of India.

Indian food is yummy. I l-o-v-e Indian food, don't you? We ordered lots and lots of vegetabletarian dishes. Samir made us laugh. He's a good server. I could be a server, you know. I can bring menus to the table. I can say, "Would you like to order? How is everything at your table?" I would give children and bear cubs extra naan to eat so they can grow big and strong. We had gulab juman for dessert. James says gulab juman is a spongy dumpling. They're sweet and sticky and that's two of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. They are really good for cubs and kids, too!

Oh.

Use your best table manners in restaurants. Then you can eat Indian food. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and eat gulab juman with us!  Okay! Over and out!"

Chef Charles and Chef Chance

Know what? We're looking in the cookbook. We're helping James make yummy foods. We help him teach gourmet vegan cooking classes at Mackenzie Hall. That's on the next block from our house. We can ride to Mackenzie Hall on our bicycles but we have to look both ways before we cross Mill Street. A big car or truck could run over us if we don't watch carefully, you know. Mackenzie Hall is really big. It looks like a castle. Oh! What if my teacher Miss Jackie lived at Mackenzie Hall? If she did, she'd be a princess!

I know what vegan means. It means no meat, no eggs, no dairy and no snakes. Definitely no snakes. I don't think snakes are in the Canada Food Guide. I hope not. That's different from Cassidy, our bunny rabbit friend. Bunny rabbits only eat vegetables. They're vegetabletarians.

Know what? James writes cookbooks. Cookbooks have recipes in them. Recipes tell us how to make yummy things to eat. He says we're gonna make strawberry ice cream, buffalo wings, butter tofu, pate de faux gras, mushroom quiche, cashew loaf, chick peas Kashmiri, Miraculous Whip, mock Cheddar cheese,  cashew milk and cashew cream. That's a lot of yummy food. We get to make gluten kritters! I l-o-v-e gluten kritters. They're really yummy. We like to help James. He says that good helpers are good citizens.

Oh.

It's fun to help cook stuff! This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Help cook. Then you can eat really yummy vegan food. Don't eat snakes, okay? Oh! Wait! I'm gonna ask James if we can make a little bit extra and send some yummy vegan food to those poor starving children in Belgium!  I know! Come over to our house and cook with us! We can stir things together. I'll share the spoon with you! Okay! Over and out!"

Cassidy

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's old and forgetful, so I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? Chance and me are hanging out with our friend Cassidy. Cassidy is a bunny rabbit. He lives with his buddies Jay and Shawn. Cassidy has a really big bedroom. It has lettuce and carrot wallpaper. He has lots of toys. Our favourite game is Tag. We play Tag with Cassidy. He hops real fast. I can hop, too! Cassidy doesn't eat  porridge with gummy worms or Smarties. He's a vegetabletarian. I know what vegetabletarians are. They don't eat meat. I know what librarians eat. They eat libraries.

Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Princes of Windsor?" That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Princes of Windsor.
We'll go find him so he can tickle our ears and kiss our noses. Cassidy will get his ears tickled and his nose kissed, too! Okay! We got to go. This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Play Tag with your friends today. Over and out!"

My Friend Cassidy

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live with my buddy James on Sparkle Road. I look after him 'cuz he's old and forgetful. Yesterday he lost his balance and fell down. I had to help him up.

Know what? This is my friend Cassidy. He's a bunny rabbit. He lives with Tanner, a big 'ole yeller dog. Bunny rabbits don't eat meat. They're vegetabletarians. They eat vegetables.

Cassidy l-o-v-es brocollis. He says they're yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. I hate brocollis. They taste nasty. Nasty is one of the four food groups, you know. Know what? Rabbits taste good but I don't eat my friends. I don't wanna sit in the Time Out Chair and have to think about my bad behaviour.

Cassidy and me play games. We're gonna play leap frog. I will jump over Cassidy and he will jump over me. It's fun. Gotta go, now. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be a good citizen! Eat your vegetables. Over and out!"
