Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's forgetful and really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!
Know what? Last week we had snow. Mr. Sunshine melted the snow and James says spring is in the air. I don't see any springs in the air. We see robins. Canada geese are flying north. The days are longer. It's hard to be sleepy when it's still light outside. I want to dig holes in the back yard. So does Chance. We don't really have palm trees on Sparkle Road but James says Windsor is in the Canadian banana belt. You can't fool me. I'm five. You can't make belts out of bananas, you know.
We got lots of fun things to do today but first we have to make our beds and eat breakfast. This morning we're eating pumpkin pancakes with peanut butter and maple syrup on top. I l-o-v-e pancakes. They're yummy and sticky. That's two of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Chance is so little he doesn't have teeth. He drinks condensed owls' milk from his bottle.Good citizens eat all their food. Starving children in Belgium would love to eat pumpkin pancakes.
Did you hear that? James is hollering? "Who's hungry? Where's my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario?" That's me! I'm a handsome bear cub. I'm a Son of Windsor. I'm a Prince of Ontario! So is Chance!
We gotta go find James so he can tickle our ears, kiss our noses and make us laugh right out loud. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens! Make your bed and eat pumpkin pancakes. Be on the look out for robins and Canada geese! Okay. Over and out!"
Charles and his buddy James explore Olde Sandwich Towne, a heritage neighbourhood in Windsor, Ontario. Charles offers a unique, playful and funny perspective on daily life, Windsor and the folks in the neighbourhood. Follow the adventures of five-year old Charles the Bear Cub and his newborn baby brother Chance. A James Mays blog.

Cirque du Soleil
Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He is old and forgetful. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. He says he's older than French fries. He must really old! I'll be he's 20! I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.
Look at us! We're playing Cirque du Soleil. I can balance Chance on my feet. I holler, "Cirque du Soleil!" and he jumps way high up in the air. I catch him so he doesn't get hurt. He knows I will catch him every time. Chance makes squeaky noises when he jumps. That means he's happy. He makes little squawky noises when he's hungry and when he has poo in his diaper. I don't wear a diaper. I get to run around bear naked. That is a pun, you know. I'm five, James says I'm a big cub, now. Know what? I'll be six on Canada Day. That's older than five. I get chocolate birthday cake and fireworks on my birthday. I sure wish I could eat fireworks. They would taste yummy and yummy is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Watch! Chance is going to jump again. I hope you can come over to our house and play Cirque du Soleil with us.
Oh! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs? Come here my Sons of Windsor! Come here Princes of Ontario!" That's us! Charles and Chance! We're gonna run find James so he can kiss our noses and tickle our ears and make us laugh right out loud. We got pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. Chance doesn't eat pancakes cuz he doesn't have any teeth. He gets condensed owls' milk in his bottle. I'm too big for a bottle. I'm five. I have a sippy cup with Spiderman on it. Okay. We gotta go. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Play Cirque du Soleil! Be good citizens! Over and out!"
