Picnic on the Detroit River

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he remembers the invention of sunshine. He must be 20! That's really old! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? I'm sitting here on the back step with my blue bike. It has a Canada flag on it. I'm waiting for James and Chance. Chance needed his diaper changed. I want them to hurry  'cuz when they come outside we're gonna ride our bikes on Russell Street down by the Detroit River.  James says Detroit is in the Knighted States. It's not part of O Canada. When we go to the Knighted States we take the Ambassador Bridge or the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

When we're hungry we'll stop, spread out our blanket next to the river and have a picnic! I l-o-v-e picnics, don't you? I know what's in the picnic basket. There's peanut butter and Smarties sandwiches and root beer and for dessert we get to eat wallermelon. We got so much food we could feed all the starving children in Belgium. We can watch the ducks and geese. I brought Smarties for them. I sure hope they like Smarties! I like to watch the boats and ships. James says some of them are 'salties' and some of them are 'lakers.'

Oh, good! Here comes Chance. He's all changed. Now he isn't stinky.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Who's ready for a picnic? Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Do good deeds. Then you can go on picnics by the Detroit River and eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and you can come on the picnic with us! Okay! Over and out!"

Hiding is Fun

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? I'm hiding from Chance and James. They will never find me in here! This is a good place to hide. They will look and look and look and then they will have to holler, "Olley, Olley in free!" Then I will climb out of the box.Won't they be surprised!

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Find good places to hide. When you're done playing you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can play Hide and Seek together. Okay! Over and out!"

Playing with Lulu and Ella

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he's so old he remembers when molasses ran uphill in January! He must be 20! That's really old. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? I'm playing with my buddy, Ella. She's lots of fun. She knows all kinds of games to play. We like rainbow flavoured popsicles. They're yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide.

Lulu is reading to Chance. He must like the story 'cuz he's sitting very still. Chance almost never sits still. He likes to take off his diaper and climb way high on things. I have to say, "My son! Come down from there this instant! I really have to watch him, he's a handful, you know.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Who wants popcorn? Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! Lulu and Ella and us, we gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Come over to our house and play with us! You can help us eat popcorn, too! Okay! Over and out!"

Riding in the Car

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he remembers the invention of gummy worms. That's old!  He must be at least 20!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me are in the car with our buddy Lulu. We're in our safety seats. That's 'cuz we don't want to get hurt in case we have an accident. Accidents aren't nice, you know. Good thing Chance is belted in. He climbs all over everything. He has to stay in the car seat. He's already taken off his diaper. Chance is a real handful!

We're gonna eat at Biscuits & Gravy Southern Bistro. The food is really yummy. They got fried green tomatoes. I l-o-v-e fried green tomatoes. They got grits and KD and lots of other good food, too. I'm as hungry as a bear. I'm gonna order lots of food and eat it all up! I'll use my best table manners, too. Chance is too little to eat fried green tomatoes. He just drinks condensed owls' milk out of his bottle.

We Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome and hungry bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome and hungry bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Come to Biscuits and Gravy and eat with us. Oh! Wait!  I'll share my fried green tomatoes with you! Okay! Over and out!"

Sleepytown Here We Come!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he is so old he remembers the first sunrise. He must be 20! That's old.  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. I think it was an angel who put Chance there. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? It was a rainy day Chance and me played inside. We made a fort under the kitchen table with some blankets. We made mushroom soup for lunch. Chance and me help stir. I'm the MiniSTIR of Stirring. Chance is the deputy Mini-STIR. James ate lunch under the table with us. It's fun to eat in the fort. For dessert we ate gummy worms. Chance doesn't have any teeth 'cuz he's a newborn cubby. He just drinks condensed owls' milk out of his bottle. I got to drink apple juice from the McCain's Junior Juice box. I l-o-v-e apple juice. It's yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Then  we painted pictures of ourselves. I painted one of us in Lake Erie at Pelee Island. We go there on the big boat, you know. James says it's the southernmost part of O Canada.

We get pretty tired at the end of the day. I know 'cuz Chance gets cranky and makes little squawky noises. James says, "I see my handsome bear cubs are ready for a trip to Sleepytown!" He's right, you know. After we splash in the bathtub, James uses the big towel to dry us off. We don't wear jammies, we get to go to Sleepytown bear naked. That's a pun. I know what a pun is.

Then we say our prayers.  I want God to look after all my friends and buddies from Newfoundland to British Columbia. I ask Him to look after all our friends and buddies in the Knighted States, too. I'm glad I'm not God. He's got a big job 'cuz my friends are a handful!  I thank God for all the good food in the Canada Food Guide except broccolis and sauerkrauts. They're nasty and we shouldn't have to eat nasty food. I ask God to feed all those poor starving children in Belgium. Then I say, 'Amen.' Amen is God's code for over and out.

James tucks us into bed.  He reads us our bedtime story. He can read real good. Our story is Snow Treasure. It's very exciting. It is about very brave boys and girls who live in O Norway. That's pretty far from our house and it's not part of O Canada.

Chance is asleep already. I'm very sleepy. My eyes won't stay open anymore. James tickles our ears and kisses our noses. He whispers, "Good night, my handsome bear cubs. Sleep tight, my Sons of Windsor. Don't let the bedbugs bite, my Princes of Ontario.  This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Good night and bon soir, good citizens.  Over and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

Dr. Charles and Patient Chance

Know what? I'm Doctor Charles. Chance is my patient. Chance is sick. He has an earache. He makes little squawky noises 'cuz he hurts. I say, "My son, let me look in your ears." I say, "My son, open wide and say Ahhh." I say, "Now, I'm going to listen to your heart with my steadyscope. Breathe deep for me." Chance isn't a very good patient. He doesn't like to sit still. He tries to climb things. He takes off his diaper, too. He tries to put the steadyscope in his mouth. We can't eat steadyscopes. They're not even in the Canada Food Guide! I write a prescription for Smarties. That is the only thing that will make Chance well. Of course, he doesn't have teeth so James will have to put the Smarties in the blender and mix them up with Chance's condensed owls' milk. He might not be able to drink the red Smarties last but he will get well.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed. Maybe I can write a prescription for James. I think he needs wallermelon.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be healthy. If you get sick, come to the Sandwich Health Centre. I'll write you a prescription for  Smarties and root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We're having wallermelon for lunch! Okay! Over and out!"

Our Picnic

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He remembers the first tree. He must be really old! At least 20!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're going to have a picnic. I know what a picnic is. We put all our food into the green bag. We got peanut butter and licorice sandwiches. We got wallermelon. I l-o-v-e wallermelon. We got Smarties, too. Oh, wait! We got mango juice. They're all yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. We're gonna ride our bikes to the park and eat next to the Detroit River. Maybe we'll feed the ducks. They're always hungry, like those starving children in Belgium. I'm sure they like Smarties. Oh. Look! Chance climbed in the green bag. We're not going to eat him! Come out of there this instant, my son! He really is a handful.

Oh. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Obey the rules. Good citizens get to go on picnics. I know! Come over to our house and have a picnic with us!  Okay! Over and out!"

Making Art is Fun

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he remembers the first rainbow! Wow! He must be at least 20!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me are painting. We're painting pictures of ourselves and the things we do like play in the bathtub and playing hockey and making music with pots and pans and spoons. We l-o-v-e to paint. Paint is pretty to look at but we don't eat paint 'cuz it's not food. It tastes nasty and it is not in the Canada Food Guide.

We're going to have an art show on the Queen's Birthday weekend. That's in May.  Queen Elizabeth will be 84, you know. That's really old. We have fireworks and eat wallermellon on the Queen's birthday. I know what Her Majesty does for a job. She's the boss of almost everybody except the Knighted States. She tells everyone to be good citizens and play nice. Oh! I will invite Her Majesty will come to our art show. She could dig holes with us and climb trees. I'd share my Smarties with her. I'd say, "Your Majesty, remember to eat the red ones last!"

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Appreciate art.  Make pretty things for people to enjoy.  Then you can eat watch fireworks and eat wallermellon.  Okay! Over and out!"

Hangin' Around

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he remembers the invention of sunlight. Wow! He's really old!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're having fun hanging around. We like to climb way up high and watch everybody. It's a good thing to do. Know what else is fun to do? Chance and me like to photocopy our faces. Then there are four of us, not two. We look pretty funny 'cuz our noses are flat on the glass. Oh. Close your eyes of you're gonna photocopy your face. That's for safety's sake. Elmer the Safety Elephant will tell you that.

Photocopying makes me hungry. I know what we're having for lunch. We're having chocolate chilli. I l-o-v-e chocolate chilli. It's yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Close you eyes in the photocopy machine. Good citizens get to eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and eat chocolate chilli with us!  Okay! Over and out!"

Our Clubhouse

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he's older than the hills. We don't have any hills so he must be really old--at least 20!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me made a clubhouse. It's under the stairs.  It's a fun place to play when it rains. We got story books. I read to Chance. He's too little to read. He doesn't even have any teeth, yet. He makes squeaky noises when I read to him. His favouritest story is called The Little Brown Bear and the Three People. It's a good story. The little brown bear eats the three people's porridge and sits on their chairs and falls asleep on their beds. The clubhouse is a good place to eat Smarties and drink root beer, you know. Sometimes we're so quiet James has to stick his head in and ask, "What are my handsome bear cubs up to?"

I sure hope we're having gummy worm soup for lunch.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Play nice. Use your indoor voices.  Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer in our clubhouse with us.  Okay! Over and out!"

Merry Christmas is Coming!

Know what? Merry Christmas is coming to our house. She will be here in 250 days! That's more days than I can count. James helps us count. We put an "X" on the calendar every night before we say our bedtime prayers and hear our bedtime story. When Merry Christmas comes she can eat the gingerbread beings we're gonna make for her. I l-o-v-e gingerbread beings.

I love Merry Christmas, too! Oh. But we don't eat our friends. That's not nice. I'd have to sit on the Time Out Chair if I did that. I'd have to think about what I did wrong and I hate to think. It's hard to think on the Time Out Chair. I'm a good citizen. Good citizens get to eat gingerbread beings and drink root beer.

This is Chance and me wearing our Santa toques. Chance is so little he fits right inside! Know what? When Chance closes his eyes, he thinks he's invisible but he's not. I can see him.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Don't eat your friends. You can eat gingerbread beings and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and help us count the days until Merry Christmas comes!  Okay! Over and out!"

He Shoots! He Scores!

Know what? I painted this. This is me and Chance. We play hockey. We l-o-v-e to play hockey. I pretend to be Wayne Gretzky and Chance is Sidney Crosby. I'm Cub Gretzky and Chance is Cub Crosby. When we play we always win the gold medal for O Canada. That makes us as hungry as those starving children in Belgium.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Who's as hungry as a bear? Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

I know what we're having for lunch. We're having lasagna. I l-o-v-e lasagna. James put spinach in it. That's yummy and yummy is one of the four good groups in the Canada Food Guide. Chance is too little to eat lasagna. He just drinks condensed owls' milk out of his bottle. After lunch we can play more hockey. It's raining. No. Wait! I know! We can play Cirque du Soleil!

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Play hockey! Win gold for O Canada.  Then you can eat lasagna. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play hockey with us! Oh! And we can play Cirque du Soleil, too! Okay! Over and out!"

Spring is Everywhere!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He tells us he saw the first sunrise. He must be really old. I think he must be at least 20! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? I know where spring is. It's everywhere! The sugar maple has red leaves on it. That's my favouritest tree. It's outside my bedroom window. I like to climb way up in the sugar maple and eat Smarties.  It's fun to watch everybody down below. We got two lips and daffy dills and dandy lions! Yesterday John mowed the lawn. That rhymes, you know. The sugar maple is a good place to hide.

Oh! Look at Chance. He thinks he's hiding from me in the grocery bag. He's not a very good hider. Chance thinks that when he closes his eyes he's invisible! Even if he was invisible I'd know where to find him 'cuz he makes little squeaky noises when he's happy. I can hear him right now, can't you?

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Say 'hello' to spring. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play outside with us! We can climb the sugar maple and I'll share my Smarties with you! I know! We can sing the Smarties song real loud!

Nestlé Smarties Song

When you eat your Smarties,
Do you eat the red ones last?
Do you suck them very slowly,
Or crunch them very fast?
Eat that candy-coated chocolate,
But tell me when I ask,
When you eat your Smarties,
Do you eat the red ones last? Okay! Over and out!"

The Blue Bike

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he's older than dirt. That must be really old!  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Look at us! Chance and me are on my blue bicycle with the Canada flag on it. It's raining, so we are riding the bike inside. We can go really fast on the bike. I make siren noises. Chance doesn't talk but he makes squeaky noises 'cuz he's happy. We  obey the rules. Elmer the Safety Elephant taught us the rules. We wear helmets when we ride. We watch out for cars and people, too.  We're good citizens, you know.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens.  Obey the rules when you ride your bike. I know! You can ride over to our house and we can drink root beer and eat Smarties, too! Okay! Over and out!"

If I Had a Million Dollars

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He forgets where he puts his money. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me found some money! We gave it to the Constable who came to our house on Sparkle Road. He says we're good citizens 'cuz we turned it in. He says we can keep it if no one  asks for it. Wow! I think it's a lot of money. There must be a million dollars! If we get to keep it, I want to give some to poor people who don't get to drink root beer. I'd give some to James and I'd give some to you, too! I know a song!

If I Had a Million Dollars

If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a house (I would buy you a house)
If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you furniture for your house (Maybe a nice Chesterfield or an ottoman)
If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a K-Car (a nice Reliant automobile)
If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love.

If I had a million dollars
I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had a million dollars
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had a million dollars
Maybe we could put a refrigerator in there
Wouldn't that be fabulous
If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel)
If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you an exotic pet (like a llama or an emu)
If I had a million dollars (if I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you John Merrick's remains (All them crazy elephant bones)
If I had a million dollars I'd buy your love.

I know who's face is on the 20-dollar bill. That's Queen Elizabeth. She's the boss of almost everybody except the Knighted States. I know who's on the  50-dollar bill, too. That's Prime Minister Pearson. Miss Jackie taught us that at the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre. James says the PM was a spy in the war. I could be be a spy! I'm good at sneaking up on lions, you know. I'm very quiet.

Chance tries to eat money. I have to say, "My son, take that out of your mouth this minute!" Money isn't good to eat, you know. He really is a handful!

Chance and me will go to Mac's Milk and Miss Wendy and Sam and Ricky and Diane can help us get a whole lot of Smarties and pineapple licorice. They're yummy and that's one of the food groups in the Canada Food Guide.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. If you find money, give it to the Constable.  Somebody might want their money. Okay! Over and out!"

My Teacher, Miss Jackie

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He says he forgets which side is up.  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what?  We're at the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre. This is me with my teacher, Miss Jackie. I l-o-v-e Miss Jackie. She is beautiful. I think she might be a princess. She lives in a castle, you know. Miss Jackie teaches me  how to tell time and write stories and how to sing. She taught me all about art. I can colour inside the lines and I know how to paw paint with peanut butter, too!

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James and Chance are here. They walk me home after school.  I can hear James hollering, "Where is my handsome bear cub? Where is my Son of Windsor? Where is my Prince of Ontario? That's me! Charles! I'm a handsome bear cub. I'm a Son of Windsor and a Prince of Ontario! I  gotta get down and go find James so I can get my ears tickled and my nose kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Do what your teacher says and you can eat  Smarties! Show your colours! Be sure to eat the red ones last!  Okay! Over and out!"

Art World: The Group of Two

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. He's so old he remembers the invention of Saran Wrap.  Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!
Know what? Chance and me are painting pictures. They're pictures of us. We're pretty good. It's not easy to paint 'cuz bear cubs don't come with thumbs. We paint pictures of us playing in the bath. We paint pictures of us playing hockey. I'm Sidney Crosby.  We paint pictures of me brushing my teeth with my Ninja toothbrush.

It's fun to paint. James helps us. Chance is really too little to paint but he likes to watch. He makes little squeaky noises 'cuz he's happy. Sometimes he tries to eat the paint 'cuz it's pretty. I have to take it away from him. "My son!" I say. "Put that paint down, now. Paint isn't yummy! It's not even in the Canada Food Guide!

James says we're The Group of Two. That's smaller than the Group of Seven. They were famous artists who lived a long time ago. I wonder of any of them tried to eat the paint?

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Paint pictures.   Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and paint with us! Bring Smarties! Okay! Over and out!"

Shopping

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember things like, don't put the phone in the fridge! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're at the store with our buddies Lulu and Ella. We're all in a shopping buggy that looks like a car. I know what shopping is. It's when we buy things. If we buy something made in O Canada that  means people work. Then they can buy gummy worms and root beer for their families. Miss Jackie taught us all this at the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre. She taught me about art. I can colour inside the lines and I can paw paint, too. Oh! Wait! I know something made in O Canada. Peanut butter! I wonder if Mars bars are made on Earth. I'll ask James. He knows lots of stuff.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Buy things made on Earth! Then you will help people work.  Okay! Over and out!"

Riding in Cars

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember. This morning he forgot to put our seat belts on us! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me in the car. We're going for a ride.  I hope we go to the Devonshire Mall. That's a fun place to go. It's always busy there. There are lots of fun things to see and do at the mall. Maybe we can get ice cream. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Yeah! James says his favourite flavour of ice cream is kerosene ripple. He's silly. We can't eat kerosene. That is poison and poisons aren't good for us. They're not even in the Canada Food Guide.

Oh. We can go for a ride!

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Then you can ride in cars and eat ice cream. Okay! Over and out!"

Transit Windsor

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember. This morning he forgot my name! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're resting. That's 'cuz we're tired. James says we're too pooped to pop. We played all day. We dug holes in the back yard and planted Smarties. When they grow we will have a Smarties tree! We rode our bikes up and down Sandwich Street and made siren sounds. We cooked lunch. We made peanut butter and licorice sandwiches on the barbecue. They're yummy and yummy is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Then we got gummy worms from Wendy at Mac's Milk.  We ate them while we rode on the bus until we got to Jackson Park. We played some more. Now we're home and we're going to have dinner. It smells good in the kitchen. It smells like Untidy Josephs. I think we're having root beer, too. I sure hope so! I l-o-v-e root beer.

Oh.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Play outside in the sunshine. Plant Smarties so you can grow a Smarties tree. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house for dinner! We can drink root beer together! Okay! Over and out!"

Easter!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember. He forgot it was Easter! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're sitting on the Easter Bunny's lap. I asked the Easter Bunny if I could have thumbs so I can hold my sippy cup in one paw instead of two. I asked the Easter Bunny if Chance could have teeth so he can eat Smarties with me.

I know the Easter story. It's in the Bible. Jesus is the Son of God. He died on a cross so we could be forgiven for the bad things we did. That's terrible. That's even worse than when I have to sit on the Time Out Chair. Jesus was very brave. He died on Friday and slept all day on Sabbath. Jesus woke up on Sunday morning 'cuz he had to go back to work.

We're going to go on an Easter egg hunt with Lulu and Ella. They're our buddies. They came to our house for Easter. We're gonna take our space ray guns we got from the dollar store to help us find the eggs.

Oh. Then we can go outside and hunt for Easter eggs.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Hoppy Easter every bunny!"

Dinner at Biscuits & Gravy Southern Bistro

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I look after him 'cuz he's very forgetful! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? We're at Biscuits & Gravy Southern Bistro with Steve. That's a restaurant. We went there to eat after church. Church makes me hungry, you know. Church was all about Easter and Jesus. We sang a lot of songs and the we closed our eyes when we talked to God.

Steve is the chef at Biscuits & Gravy Southern Bistro. He knows how to cook all kinds of yummy food. We ate macaroni and cheese. We ate fried green tomatoes. We ate collard greens, too. They're all yummy and yummy is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. I l-o-v-e all the good food at Biscuits & Gravy Southern Bistro. They got meat loaf and chicken and everything! Steve is a good chef. Chance is so little he doesn't have any teeth. He just drinks condensed owls' milk out of his bottle.

I could be a chef, you know. I'm five. I'm very good at stirring. James says I'm the MiniSTIR of Stirring. Chance helps, too. James says he is the deputy Mini-Stir of Stirring. He's the deputy Mini-Stir 'cuz he's really little and can't do it all by himself.

There was so much food we brought it home in doggy bags. I don't know why they're called doggy bags. We're not doggies, we're bear cubs. We're handsome bear cubs. James says so.

Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! It's time to brush our teeth and say our prayers and hear our bedtime story and get tucked into beddy for the night. James will tickle our ears and kiss our noses.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Happy Easter everybody! Be good citizens. Then you can eat fried green tomatoes and biscuits and gravy.  Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and hunt for Easter eggs with us! Okay! Over and out!"

Brunch at Rock Bottom

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember. This morning he forgot this is Good Friday! Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Chance and me are at Rock Bottom. That's a pub on Sandwich Street. They have brunch on weekends. I know what brunch is. It's breakfast mixed with lunch. Brunch is yummy but it's not in the Canada Food Guide. We get to eat scrambled eggs and hash brown potatoes. We get to drink orange juice. Sometimes the nice lady gives us wallermelon but she didn't have any today.  Chance doesn't have any teeth, yet. He's really tiny. He only drinks condensed owls' milk from a bottle.

Darryl and Alexandria are here with us. They're our buddies. When we're finished brunch we can all go outside and play. We can swing in the park. That's fun. Oh! We could take our space ray guns and go on a lion hunt!

Did you hear that? Darryl is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find Darryl so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed and we can play in the park!

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens.Good citizens get to eat at Rock Bottom and go on lion hunts. Okay! We gotta go! Over and out!"

Chance's Favouritest Song

Hi. This is my baby brother, Chance. He's a newborn cubby someone left on our doorstep. I look after him. He's really tiny but he's a real handful. You know me.  I'm Charles the Bear Cub. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know. I help him remember things. Today he forgot where he left his bicycle!

Chance is so little he doesn't have any teeth. He only drinks condensed owls' milk out of a bottle. He can't talk, yet. He likes to rip off his diaper and climb things. He makes little squeaky noises when he's happy and little squawky noises when he's hungry or afraid or has poo in his diaper.

Chance has a favourite song. It's He's Got the Whole World in His Hands. When Chance hears it he bounces up and down and makes squeaky noises. That's 'cuz he's really happy.

He's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the wind and the rain in his hands [Repeat 3x]
He's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the sun and the moon . . .
He's got the little bitty baby . . .
He's got you and me brother . . .
He's got everybody here . . .

If you want to hear the song, you can download it at-

Oh. We can get out some pots and pans and wooden spoons and sing. We're the Band of Brothers, you know.

This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens! Sing out loud and make people smile. Good citizens get to eat Smarties and drink root beer and play Space Invaders. I know! Come to our house and sing with us! Over and out!"
