Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.
Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!
Know what? Chance and me are hanging out at 1976. That's a store on Sandwich Street. It is full of nice presents and jewellery and clothes. Everything in the store is made by local artists. We're here with Nick and James and our buddy Debbie. It's Debbie's birthday. She won't tell us how old. She just says, "I'm older than dirt." Dirt must be really old. I know Debbie is older than me. I'm five. My birthday is on Canada Day.
Chance and me made a birthday present for Debbie. It's a painting of us. We're the two handsome bear cubs putting the letter in the mail box. We're local artists. We like to paint. It's not easy 'cuz we don't have thumbs. I hope we grow thumbs when we get older. I hope we grow pockets, too. If I had pockets I'd keep Smarties in them.
Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.
This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Do good deeds. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can do good deeds together! Okay! Over and out!"
Charles and his buddy James explore Olde Sandwich Towne, a heritage neighbourhood in Windsor, Ontario. Charles offers a unique, playful and funny perspective on daily life, Windsor and the folks in the neighbourhood. Follow the adventures of five-year old Charles the Bear Cub and his newborn baby brother Chance. A James Mays blog.

Easter!

Know what? We're sitting on the Easter Bunny's lap. I asked the Easter Bunny if I could have thumbs so I can hold my sippy cup in one paw instead of two. I asked the Easter Bunny if Chance could have teeth so he can eat Smarties with me.
I know the Easter story. It's in the Bible. Jesus is the Son of God. He died on a cross so we could be forgiven for the bad things we did. That's terrible. That's even worse than when I have to sit on the Time Out Chair. Jesus was very brave. He died on Friday and slept all day on Sabbath. Jesus woke up on Sunday morning 'cuz he had to go back to work.
We're going to go on an Easter egg hunt with Lulu and Ella. They're our buddies. They came to our house for Easter. We're gonna take our space ray guns we got from the dollar store to help us find the eggs.
Oh. Then we can go outside and hunt for Easter eggs.
This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Hoppy Easter every bunny!"

Hi. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live with my buddy James, on Sparkle Road.
Look at this! I made a happy face. It's as big as me. Special Ed James says I'm growing like a weed. I don't want to grow like a weed. I want to grow like a bear cub.
Know what? Bear cubs don't have pockets or thumbs. When I get older I hope I will grow pockets and thumbs. I can't eat this happy face. Sometimes I make happy faces with peanut butter. I can eat those. They taste yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide.
Happy faces make us feel good. This one is for d James. I know it will make him smile. If you make a happy face for someone, you're being a good citizen and you get to eat wallermelons and licorice, too. I gotta go. We're going down to the river and feed the ducks. Wait! I know! Come with us. I got lots of popcorn and jar of pickles. Do you think the ducks would like pickles? Okay. See you there. Bye for now. This is me, Charles, the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Feed your duck friends pickles. Won't they be surprised! Over and out!"

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live with my buddy James on Sparkle Road. That's in Olde Sandwich Towne. That's in Windsor, Ontario. Ontario is in O Canada--our home and native land. James says we live in southernmost, subtropical Ontario. He says it's this is O Canada's banana belt. You can't fool me. You can't make a belt out of bananas. I look after James 'cuz he's old and forgetful.
Know what? I like to start the day by reading The Lance. It is a newspaper at the University of Windsor. I can read, you know. That's because I'm not just a handsome bear cub, I'm gifted. My buddy, James, says so. James might be really old but he has thumbs.
I want thumbs. I am going to write a letter to Santa and ask for thumbs. I have been good. I would like opposable thumbs. Two of them. For Christmas. Okay, for my birthday. That's on Canada Day. If I had thumbs then I could hold a glass in one paw, like my buddy, Special Ed James. Cool! This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Read the newspaper. Over and out!"
