The Big Adventure Continues: Charles and Chance Fly with Air Canada

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. He's so newborn he just drinks chocolate owls' milk. He climbs way high on things and can't get down. He makes little squawky noises 'cuz he's afraid. I have to say, "My son! Come down from there this instant!" Then I have to help him 'cuz he's to little to do it by himself. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? Grandpa James and Chance and me are on holidays. We're in Atlantic Canada. We rode on VIA Rail and we rode in a car, too. We had to wait an extra day for our plane 'cuz of the fog. Planes don't like fog very much. I think planes are allergic to fog.

The airport in Charlottetown, PEI.

We're getting ready to ride in an airplane. It's my first time. I can hardly wait! We're going to say good-bye to our friends and buddies on Prince Edward Island. We're going to fly to St. John's. That's in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Chance and me get to meet Captain Gary and First Officer Christopher.

Look at us! Chance and me are in the cockpit of an airplane. We get to sit with Captain Gary and First Officer Christopher. They have very important jobs, you know. They're the bosses. They make the airplane fly. We're flying from Charlottetown to St. John's. I could be a pilot or a first officer when I grow up. I could say, "Welcome aboard" and "This your captain speaking."

We buckle up our seatbelts when the plane takes off. That's so we don't fall and hurt ourselves. We sit up straight and make sure our suitcase is under the seat.

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? Grandpa James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find Grandpa James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be kind to friends and neighbours. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over and play with us! We can go for a ride in an airplane with Captain Gary and First Officer Christopher! Okay! Over and out!"

The Big Adventure Continues: Visiting an Organic Farm on PEI

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, Grandpa James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!

Know what? This is our buddy, Andres. He owns a farm on Prince Edward Island. I know where Prince Edward Island is. It's in O Canada. Andres owns an organic farm. That means everything he grows is safe to eat. I could be a farmer when I grow up, you know. Farmers have an important job. They feed Canadians lots of yummy foods. I'm glad Andres doesn't grow sauerkrauts. They're nasty and I have to hold my nose and take two bites, anyway.

Look at me! I can drive the tractor! Farmers use tractors to plough the fields and plant crops and harvest them, too. I like to drive the tractor. Chance thinks he's helping but he's too newborn, so he really isn't, you know. He's riding the clutch.Andres needs a tractor 'cuz the farm is 120 hectares. That's really big!

Andres has bears, you know. They're his buddies. We had fun playing with Beedoh Papa and Mama Beedoh. We played Hide-and-Seek. Chance isn't very good at that game. He thinks he's invisible when he closes his eyes but he's not. Grandpa James says Chance will be better at the game when he's older. I hope he gets older right away!

Oh.

Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can go visit Andres and drive the tractor together! Okay! Over and out!"

Charles and Chance's Big Adventure: TeaMac Manor in Stellarton, Nova Scotia

Know what? We're in Stellarton with our buddies Don and Jane.  They have an important job. They have bed and breakfast. That's a place to stay when you can't be home. They make everyone feel right at home. That's a big job. Don and Jane are very good at their job. Grandpa James says they are the hosts. Oh! The house has a name. It's called TeaMac Manor. I could have a bed and breakfast when I grow up, you know. I could be a good host. I would name my house, too. I would name it Smarties Castle. I would build the whole house out of Smarties. I l-o-v-e Smarties, don't you?

We came to Stellarton to see our buddy Charlie get baptized. She's so newborn she just sleeps and eats. When she's bigger we can play with her.

Grandpa James says that Stellarton is in Nova Scotia. I know where that is. It's in O Canada. Know what? O Canada is a very big place. I think it's bigger than everything!

Oh.

We gotta get ready to go on the boat. We're going to Prince Edward Island today.  This is our boat. It's the Holiday Island. It's really big! It's so big that cars and trucks and transports can ride, too

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be kind to friends and neighbours. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can visit Don and Jane! We can ride on the ferry to Prince Edward Island! Okay! Over and out!"

Fast Food

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, Special Ed James. He rides to school on a short bus, so I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.

Know what? We're at Wendy's. Special Ed James says it's a fast food joint. He's silly. The food isn't fast. It isn't even slow. The food isn't moving at all! I am eating a baked potato. I know where potatoes come from. They come from Prince Edward Island. Anne of Green Gables is in charge of growing baked potatoes. I l-o-v-e baked potatoes. They're yummy and that is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Chance can't eat potatoes. He's so little he doesn't have teeth yet. He can't talk. He makes squeaky noises when he's happy and squawky noises when he's upset or has to poo. Chance doesn't even have a tail! He drinks condensed owls' milk from his bottle. I don't know where Chance disappeared to. I have to watch him so he doesn't get hurt. He's a handful, you know.

Did you hear that? Special Ed James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs?" That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs! I'll find Chance and Special Ed James will tickle our ears and kiss our noses and give us great big hugs. This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Eat your baked potatoes--even the skin. Starving children in Belgium would be happy to eat baked potatoes. Over and out!"
