Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.
Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. He's so little he doesn't even have any teeth or a tail! I look after Chance, too. He climbs way up high on thinks and then he can't get down. He makes little squawky noises, 'cuz he's afraid. Chance is a handful!
Chance and me love to play games after lunch. Games are fun. Our favourite board game is Snakes and Ladders. I have to watch Chance. He tries to eat the markers.
We play other games, too. We play Hide and Seek. That's the funnest game of all. I hide my eyes and count to 100 like this--one elephant, two elephant, three elephant. I count 100 elephants and then I holler, "Here I come! Ready or not!
Chance is supposed to hide while I count the elephants and then I am supposed to go look for him. I found him right away. Chance climbed up high. He was hiding in the china cabinet. He thinks I can't see him through the glass. Chance is a wee little thing and he's not a very good hider. Know what? He thinks if he closes his eyes, he's invisible but he's not. Chance also thinks the reason there's glass on the TV is to keep the little people from falling out and landing on the floor.
We play Hide and Seek a lot. It makes us sleepy. When we get sleepy, we take naps. Naps are good. We take the pillows off the chesterfield and make a comfy little place to sleep on the living room floor, right in front of the TV fireplace. We get to nap in our Santa toques.
Chance makes little snory noises when he's asleep. He's a very noisy little cubby. Know what? When I fell asleep, I had a dream. I dreamt that guardian angel kitties came to talk to me. I didn't know angels were kitty cats. I thought guardian angels were bear cubs, like us. The guardian angel kitties had wings. They were white and soft like newborn snow.
The guardian angel kitties told me to be good and kind so that Santa would leave me presents under the Christmas tree. I try to be good and kind everyday, even if Santa doesn't give me anything. That's what good citizens do and I am going to be the best citizen on Sandwich Street.
When I woke up, there were no guardian angel kitties anywhere. I wonder if they're real or just a dream. I'll ask James. He's smart. He knows everything. He's so old he remembers the first Christmas. He will know if guardian angels are kitties.
Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.
This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Be kind to your friends and neighbours. Then you can eat gingerbread beings and drink cocoa with little baby marshmallows.
Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can nap and dream about guardian angel kitties and wait for Santa and Merry Christmas together! Okay! Over and out!"
Charles and his buddy James explore Olde Sandwich Towne, a heritage neighbourhood in Windsor, Ontario. Charles offers a unique, playful and funny perspective on daily life, Windsor and the folks in the neighbourhood. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. He's a handful!
Know what? I had a yummy dream last night. I dreamt that Chance and me were eating BIG gyro sandwiches with lots and lots of garlic sauce and hot sauce, too. I l-o-v-e gyros. They come from Greece. That's a far away place. We can't go there on VIA Rail. Good thing gyros can come to our house. Gyros are yummy and yummy is one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide, you know.
Then I dreamt that Chance and me got inside the sandwiches! I was afraid somebody might eat us all up and I woke up afraid! I accidentally woke up Chance. I must have made a lot of noise 'cuz Chance could sleep through an atomic bomb. James says I had a nightmare. It's a bad, bad dream. He put on our Spiderman night light and held us real tight until we went back to sleep. I'm sure glad James is our buddy. He keeps us safe.
Oh.
Do good deeds and be kind to your neighbours, friends and buddies. Good citizens get to eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can eat gyros together, too! Pass the hot sauce and the garlic sauce, please. Okay! Over and out!"

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's old and forgetful, so I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.
Know what? When James tucks us into bed he always says, "Good night my handsome bear cubs, sweet dreams you Princes of Windsor." I had a dream last night. I dreamt that Chance and me were playing Hide & Go Seek with Tanner. Tanner's a big 'ole yeller dog who lives with his buddies Shaun and Jay. I didn't know I could have dreams about Tanner. Tanner was my bestest friend but he died of cancer at Christmas. I sure do miss him a lot. I'm glad I had the dream about Tanner. I wonder of Chance has dreams. Probably not 'cuz he's too little. He's so little he doesn't have a tail. He doesn't even have teeth!
Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where's my handsome bear cubs?" That's me! Charles. That's Chance. We're gonna find James so he can tickle our ears and kiss our noses. I can smell porridge. I l-o-v-e porridge. Today I'm gonna put red gummy worms in my porridge. Gummy worms are yummy and that's one of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Chance can't eat gummy worms. He drinks condensed owls' milk in his bottle. I don't have a bottle. I'm five, you know. I have a sippy cup with Spiderman on it. Okay! We gotta go! This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "When you got to sleep tonight, "Good night to all my buddies and friends and sweet dreams! Over and out!"

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy James. He is forgetful and really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. I think he must 20 years old. That's really old! I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.
Know what? We're really sick. We got Austrian measles. We are burning up with fever. I fell asleep and I had a dream. I dreamt that my friend Tanner came to our house to play with Chance and me. We had fun. We dug holes in the backyard and we played Hide & Seek, too. We had Smarties and root beer for lunch. Tanner is a big 'ole yeller dog. He is my first bestest friend. When I woke up Tanner was gone. It was a dream 'cuz Tanner died before Christmas. He was sick. He had cancer. I miss my friend a lot. Chance and me are sick but James says we won't die from Austrian measles. That's good to know.
James has Canada Dry for us. Know what? He holds us tight and hugs us. We get to drink Canada Dry right out of the can. We get to drink it with bendy straws. Chance drinks out of a bottle. He's too little for a bendy straw. It hurts to swallow. James puts a cool washcloth on our faces. It feels good. He's singing some songs. I'm sleepy. I'm going to fall asleep. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, drink Canada Dry with a bendy straw when you're sick. Over and out!"

Merry Christmas is a Real Person!

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He forgets which house we live in. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark. I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing.
Know what? Last night I had a dream about Merry Christmas. She is a very pretty lady and she wears a red dress and a red coat. She took Chance and me to visit her Christmas House. We rode in a one-horse open sleigh. Merry Christmas lives in a real big house. She lives with Santa and Frosty the Snow Person and Rudolph the Nasally Challenged Reindeer. We all sat under the Christmas tree. Merry Christmas gave us licorice and Smarties. We sang a song for her. Well, I sang a song. Chance doesn't sing. He doesn't even talk yet, he's so little. He made squeaky noises 'cuz he was happy.
We love you Merry Christmas
We love you Merry Christmas
We love you Merry Christmas
Have a Happy New Year!
That was our song. Merry Christmas clapped her hands and tickled our ears. She kissed our noses and told us to be good cubs and to be kind to everyone. We fell asleep under the tree.
When we woke up. We put another sticker on the calendar, today. Know what? It's only three more days before Santa and Merry Christmas come to our house!
This is Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Merry Christmas, everybody! Over and out!"

Going to Sleepytown
Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He is old and forgetful. He must be 20. That's really old. I have to look after him. Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after him, too.
Know what? We're sleepy. We had fun all day and we're tired. James says we're all tuckered out. I don't know what that means but I know we're tucked into beddy and we're going to Sleepytown. Chance and me were busy today. We dug holes in the back yard. We played rock band with pots and pans. We climbed trees and we made peanut butter and licorice sandwiches for supper. We had our baths and our bedtime story and we said our prayers. We're going to sleep, now. Know what? Sometimes I have dreams. I hope I dream about boats and trains and Smarties. Know what? When we wake up it will be tomorrow and we can have more fun! I'm falling a-s-l-e-e-p. Okay. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Nighty night!"

My Dream About a Lion Hunt

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's old and forgetful. This morning he forgot my name! I have to look after him. Oh.Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I have to look after him, too.
Chance is really little. He doesn't have any teeth and he can't talk. He doesn't even have a tail, yet!
I have a tail. I'm five, you know. Chance drinks condensed owls' milk out of a bottle. I don't need a bottle. I have a sippy cup with Spiderman on it.
Know what? Last night after we had our bedtime story, said our prayers and went to sleep I had a dream. I dreamt I was hunting lions in the living room. I l-o-v-e to hunt for lions. It's the funnest game. Every time I would sneak up on the lion and get ready to catch him, guess what? There wasn't any lion, it was Chance. That was my dream. Today we can go outside and play lion hunt. We can hide in the cedar hedge and pretend that cats and squirrels are lions. Yeah. That's a good idea. Lion Hunt! Chance will have to be very quiet. He makes little squeaky noises when he's happy and excited. Then the lions will run and hide. Okay. I gotta go get my safari helmet and my space ray gun. I'm gonna catch a zillion lions! Be good citizens and catch lots of lions today. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying,
Goin' on a lion hunt
One, two, three!'
Goin' on a lion hunt,
Can't catch me!
Over and out!"
