Play Time with Cassidy and Angus

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. You know me. I live on Sparkle Road with my buddy, James. He's really old. He was the second Canadian to get off Noah's Ark, you know.

Oh. Wait! Chance lives with us, too. He's a newborn cubby someone left in a basket on our doorstep. He's a wee little thing. I look after Chance, too. Chance had a birthday on Hallowe'en. He's a year old, now. He's a handful!

Sometimes we go to play with Cassidy and Angus at their house. They are our friends. They live with Jay and Shaun. Cassidy has his own room with lettuce and carrot wallpaper.

We go to Cassidy and Angus' house on the 1C Transway bus.  I like to ride the bus. I say 'hello' to everyone. James says riding the bus makes our carbon footprints smaller. I don't know what that means but I'm a five-year old bear cub and my feet keep growing bigger!

Know what? Miss Jackie, my teacher at the Scruffy Maple Day Care Centre taught us a song about the bus. Ready? It goes like this--

The wheels on the bus go round and round,
round and round,
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,

In Olde Sandwich Towne.

We get off the bus at the corner of Janette and University. Cassidy is a bunny rabbit. Angus is a kitty cat. Cassidy only eats carrots and bananas and hay. He doesn't eat meat at all. He's a vegetabletarian. Angus doesn't like carrots. He likes to eat mice and birds. Angus eats lots of things. He's an meatatarian. Chance and me are bear cubs. We eat wallermelons and Smarties. Well, I do. Chance doesn't have any teeth, yet. He's too little. he just drinks condensed owls' milk out of his bottle.

Cassidy and Angus are fun to play with. We know lots of games. We play hide-and-seek . We play 1-2-3 British Bulldog , too. On rainy days and snowy days we play indoors. We like to build a tent or a fort in the living room with blankets. We crawl inside with our flashlights and play Snakes and Ladders. It's an exciting game to play, you know. We have to watch Chance when we play. He doesn't really know how. He takes the little markers off the board and tries to eat them. He's too little to know you can't eat the markers!

Oh. Wait! Did you hear that? James is hollering, "Where are my handsome bear cubs? Where are my Sons of Windsor? Where are my Princes of Ontario? That's me! Charles! That's Chance! We're handsome bear cubs. We're Sons of Windsor and Princes of Ontario! We gotta go find James so we can get our ears tickled and our noses kissed.

This is me, Charles the Bear Cub saying, "Be good citizens. Do good deeds and play nicely. Then you can eat Smarties and drink root beer. Oh! Wait! Come over to our house and play with us! We can have fun together! Okay! Over and out!"

Who's a Handsome Bear Cub?

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub and this is my little brother, Chance. We live on Sparkle Road with our buddy,  James. He is old and very forgetful. Today he forgot to get off the bus! I had to find him.  I look after him. I look after Chance, too. He's a newborn cubby.

Know what? Chance is a real handful. He climbs everything. Sometimes his diaper gets stuck and he can't get down. Then he makes squawky noises 'cuz he's afraid. Then I put on my fireman's hat and rescue him. I have to be careful because Chance copies everything I do. He's a copy cat. I don't know why we say that. He should be a copy cub.

I can do lots and lots of things cuz I'm five. My birthday is on Canada Day.  Chance is a wee little thing and if he tries to do what I do he might get hurt. That would be awful! Looking after Chance is a big job. Right now we're just hanging out in the cabinet. I holler, "Who's a handsome bear cub? Who is a Son of Windsor? Who is a Prince of Ontario?" then I tickle Chance's ears and kiss his nose. He makes squeaky noises 'cuz he's happy. Know what? Chance licks my ears with his tongue. That makes me laugh right out loud. It's raining outside.

We're gonna go find James and see if we can build a tent in the living room. Then we can hunt for lions and eat lunch in the tent. Yeah. Good idea. I can cook. James lets me help in the kitchen. I can cook peanut butter and Smarties sandwiches. I want apple juice, too. Oh. Wait. Chance doesn't have any teeth. He can't eat sandwiches. He drinks out of a bottle. I know! I'll stuff his sandwich into the bottle and fill it up with apple juice. Okay. We gotta go. We got stuff to do. This is me, Charles the Bear Cub, saying, 'over and out!'

Peanut Butter & Me

Hi. I'm Charles the Bear Cub. I live with my buddy,  James, on Sparkle Road.

Know what? It's raining so we're staying indoors today. Maybe we'll build a tent in the living room and eat peanut butter and licorice sandwiches in the tent at lunch time.  James has a surprise for me. He brought out the picture album with pictures of when I was a newborn cubby. Look at me! I was really little! I liked peanut butter when I was a wee little thing. I'm five but I still l-o-v-e peanut butter. It's yummy and sticky and that's two of the four food groups in the Canada Food Guide. Peanut butter is so good for bear cubs they put our picture on the jar.

I wish I had a little brother to play with. I want to buy one at Canadian Tire. I got $8.57 in Canadian Tire money.  James just laughs, tickles my ears and says, "Fat chance, Charles. You're a handful and a half, already." If I had a baby brother, I'd be really good. Honest.

Okay. I gotta go. We're having chocolate milk and we have lots of pictures to look at--pictures of me in the olden days when I was just a cubby. Bye for now! This is me, Charles, saying, "Over and out!"
